I have emailed many of you individually and told you about our moving plans coming up, but had not yet gotten around to getting it posted here on the blog for all of you. So here goes:
John finishes his 1-year contract on March 19th, and then Lord willing, we will be moving on that weekend of March 20th. John has accepted a new contract teaching English at a school in a new location about 3 hours from here. The town is called Wonju. It is only about 90 minutes from Seoul, a larger town than where we are currently. We checked into openings in SeoSan - the larger city just 45 min away from us - but there were no openings when we looked. We checked down in Busan area, too, since we've heard a lot about it, but did not find much there either for when John needed to start.
Since telling people here, we have heard a lot about how it's a very nice area of Korea, that it's a well-visited area because of it's placement at the foot of larger mountains, and that it is close to nice beaches and caves.
We went to Wonju and liked what we saw. John will have smaller classes and will be able to work one-on-one more with the children. There are 6 other native-English speaking teachers at the school. This school is private instead of public. So there will be many changes and will probably be very different from our experiences this past year. We are sad to leave as the time draws closer for our departure; but excited too, to be able to see and live in another part of Korea.
We have really enjoyed our time here and will miss the friends we've made. The school here has been very good to us and we will definitely miss the wonderful daily school lunches! My kids will now starve!!!!!! All care packages will be appreciated! :) :) As we were walking for groceries the other day, the kids mentioned how it will be different to not have just one street to walk to for practically everything we need...all within a 5-10 minute walk from our house. We have come to recognize and know many shop owners on a personal basis, and that's been very nice, too. Living in a small town certainly has its advantages!
Right now is our time of reminiscing over the past year and saying good-byes to friends and those we've gotten to know. As many problems as I had with the bus system, I know I will be sad to ride out one last time - leaving behind all that's familiar and starting over again. But - life is not about the safe, the familiar, staying the same. We have had many great experiences here, and I know we will have more wonderful experiences in Wonju. After we move, I'm certain you'll hear raving reviews from us soon!
You know something I like about Wonju? We share the same first letter!!! My letter is always very lonely with all the J's in the family, but if we're living in Wonju, then my letter has some company at last! :D
