The day began at 9am out in the school playground for a "field & track" type sport's day. The grounds are so big (long), I could not capture everyone on the camera at once. The children all participated in the running events, but there were others as well...such as tug 0' war, "basketball," ball rolling, jump-roping, and exercises.
The kindergarteners are on the far right with the orange shirts. James can also be seen faintly 2 groups over at the end...he's wearing red pants. (This picture captures about the right 2/3's.) After the opening comments, 6 children were called up and given awards by the principal. The girl receiving her reward at the moment is in my English class and is learning well.
The events began with exercises...it was really something to watch 600+ students performing stretches, movements, and jumps all together. (This picture captures the other left 1/3.) John and his "little shadow" watch the field. She is in special ed, but John has been working with her and she can speak a little English now (when she wants to!)
James waits his turn with his class. Six students raced together for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. James came in third! He has a little more of a chance at physical games here since he's more the size of the other kids his age.
Jesse & Joy with their teacher, Cindy(that's her "English" name). She is very nice! Jesse & Joy ran together...Joy got 1st and Jesse came in 3rd! Both were pretty excited about that!

The older classes had the biggest tug o' war I've ever seen...the rope stretched the entire length of the field! The picture is only showing about half of each side!
Left picture: making "baskets"...a race to see which team got the most balls into the boxes in a certain amount of time. Right picture: Rolling huge balls around a post and back again...James is on the left in the red pants rolling the ball. His team won this round.
I took the picture on the left to show the umbrella in the upper left part. It is common to use pretty umbrellas to shade themselves. AND...I finally got a picture of a school meal! Here it is: Top L->R - kimchi, meat dish, vegetable. Bottom left - rice and then soup. The only variables are the vegetable and the meat dish. Otherwise, it is always a type of kimchi, soup, and rice. This was only our 2nd time to have apple juice...and our first time to have the "porkburgers" for the meat dish. It must have been a special meal for the sport's day. Sorry the picture turned out a little blurry there. I'll try again when I remember the camera!
