Parent's Day in Korea, Mother's Day in the US. We had John's teaching assistant, JeongWon and SayWon over for supper. They brought ingredients with them to make a Korean dish, and we made some American dishes for them. All in all, we had a good time learning how to cook a new dish from each other. We both said we wanted to do it again soon. She made a noodle dish with mushrooms, carrots, & spinach. We made baked chicken(half baked/half broiled in a toaster-oven sized oven), lettuce salad with the parmesan cheese we brought with us, and then I fried some eggs. It was a good meal and it was nice since both JeongWon and SayWon know enough English to converse.
They also made some phone calls to check on a problem for us...we have had no running water since last Thursday morning. The water started sputtering when we were getting ready and by the time we left, it was dry. We did not know if it was a pump issue or not. It did not seem likely to be a water level issue as it has been raining here lately. We weren't sure if the issue might resolve itself by the time we got back from our bus trip with the teachers, but it wasn't. Saturday we pretty much spent the day traveling to/from Seoul anyway. And Sunday morning we washed up by bottled water and a washcloth; it was my first time to wash my hair by bottled water! So by Sunday afternoon, SayWon checked the pump, then JeongWon called about it and found out that our water is controlled by the school. Since there was no school from Thursday through till next Tuesday, the school's water was shut off: thus ours was cut off, too. The school mechanic went to Seoul and so nothing can be done until Tuesday.
After JeongWon & SayWon left, John and the kids went out for a walk. They came back all hush-hush and then came in to the bedroom where I was talking to Kendra across Skype and starting singing "Happy Mother's Day to you..." and gave me a goodie that they'd picked out. That was a nice surprise!
