Joy takes a picture with Dr. Harms. She knows English well and she lived in the US for 17 years and makes about 3-4 trips back to the US to teach classes at Harvard. Others at the table include people who work at the library where we go each Wednesday for the English classes. After lunch, we went to a market, which was not as we'd expected. We were picturing a traditional market, but this time it was a street lined with shops, like you'd see in the US.
After fighting Seoul traffic for hours, we arrived at Mr. Kim's parents house. Mr. Kim's father is the one who works at Asiana. The house was like nothing we've seen yet in Korea. We were then told that this is a new "western" style just starting to come into Seoul. Marble walls, real wood floors (instead of laminate), real looking ceilings (instead of wall-papered), glass cabinets & real closets, and carpet in the entryway. They even had a real leather couch! You can see that some of us quickly took up residence there!!! It was my first time on a real couch since leaving the US. Wow, it was comfortable. I even got to sleep on it that night instead of on the floor. They were concerned that I would be less comfortable there than on the floor!
The next morning, we began the drive home after a late breakfast. We got a few pictures when we were stopped in traffic. The first shows a group of girls in school uniform. They still go to school every other Saturday here. It recently changed. About 3 years ago, they were going to school every Mon-Sat. The next picture is a stadium John thought looked neat.
Apartments, apartments, apartments!!! No matter which way you look, there are apartments everywhere! One group was at least 1/2 mile long of constant tall high-rise apartment buildings. The last picture is of the toll booths.
We're starting to recognize DaeSan from afar off! That was exciting! The tallest mount there is "our" mountain, so we knew we were getting close to home. Once there, everyone got out and the guys played ball with the kids. Instead of a bat, they used bamboo sticks. The only problem was the bus!!! It got stuck up there a couple times and then went down into the revine a few times, too.
The ladies came to the house with me for a "grand tour." Dr. Harms was brave enough to try the hoolahoop on the bed (only place available without smacking into something.) She's a good sport!
