Going to the market to get fruits & veggies...

As we walked toward the market,

we saw the cutest little pair of umbrella holders...!

All around town are women who set up shop at intersections......

--along the road,

....on street corners--

--and along the Market street itself,

(The market is open daily, rain or shine-

the umbrellas protect the produce from the weather)

--where there are larger tents full of yummy produce!

Here's John buying some melons from a street vendor. This vendor spoke some English...he was able to confirm the amount in English and was proud to say "Thank You!" They call these watermelons, but they're not - although they are a type of melon. I've never seen them in the U.S, and I'd say the closest thing to compare it to would be honeydew--except these are white inside, not green.

And this is a fun snack vendor to stand at and watch. The bag that Jesse is holding is filled with flat pancake-sized puffs, like James is holding. They are made of rice and basically taste like an airy rice cracker. How they are made: a small portion of mixture is poured into a flat, round compartment. Then, after about 10 seconds, it pops and comes flying out the side.....looking just like a mini frisbee!

I believe the picture above will enlarge if you double click on it--then you will see that there is a patient in a wheelchair just coming out from behind the snack stand. This is a site that took me for a loop when we first arrived in Korea, but now is "normal" since we see it all the time. Patients are allowed outside the hospital and off the premises, either in wheelchairs or up & walking around. Insurance laws obviously differ here!
