Reiko-san

Meals with Reiko-san
(pronounced Lake-o san)

Reiko-san comes each week to bring us a meal, cooks it here, and then eats with us. Here is a sampling of pictures of some of the meals we've had together.

Fish, Pork, & Rice with Roots
I take the opportunity to study my Japanese with Reiko-san during supper.

Rice, potato, and two kinds of fish meat rolls.

Salmon and soup....
....bread and rice.

SUSHI !!!!! (dipped in soy sauce)
---then followed by salad after eating the salmon.
It's to help digest the raw meat.

A Concert Outing With Reiko-san

Reiko-san's parents founded a college in a nearby city. Her older sister is now the president of that college. Each year they invite a well-known Japanese singer and pianist for a concert. Reiko-san invited us to go with her this year. We enjoyed it. Gomen nasai -sorry- for the blurred pictures, but we got the best pictures we could without a flash. The singer had a beautiful yellow dress on for the first half, then changed into a blue dress for the rest of it.

Picture in front of the Main Entrance
Reiko-san "and her mother," who's bust is displayed in the entrance hall of the main building. When Reiko-san's parents founded the college just after WWII, it grew from a pile of destroyed rubble into the well-known college it is today. Reiko-san has been a teacher there for many years.
After the concert and tour, Reiko-san took us out to eat at ---Red Lobster! The food tasted a little different than it does in the States, but it was good. We got to talking, and spent 4 hours there! It reminded me of French meals.... :)

...I think I mainly only got the singer "ahhhhhh"'ing for the video instead of any real singing, so you won't really get to actually hear any Japanese, I don't think. :( The pianist was very talented and played us several compositions as well. I recognized Chopin among others.
